Choosing a Memorial - your questions answered
Why choose a memorial?
Stone memorials have been chosen for their natural beauty and permanence since the dawn of civilisation,
symbolising the ongoing love and respect we have for those who have gone before.
What does a memorial cost?
Memorials are available to suit all requirements. Often it is the finish, not the size that dictates costs
and a good monumental mason will be pleased to advise you as to the right combination of size and finish
for the amount you wish to spend.
Value
It is hardly possible for any business to have lasting success without offering fair value to its customers.
When comparing prices make sure that the size and thickness are similar, though the quality of the materials
and finish is difficult to recognise. Memorial durability is very important; therefore question the memorial
mason about the quality of materials used, because it is often better not to purchase on price alone, as cheaper,
inferior materials lead to a constant source of regret and expense of future maintenance.
Why a monumental mason?
Members of the National Association of Memorial Masons are required to satisfy certain standards of service -
your guarantee of fine workmanship and value for money. Brent Stevenson Memorials is the 6th generation since 1883,
offering a comprehensive worry-free service to the bereaved. Our service includes help in selecting the design
and required inscription. The effect of a beautiful memorial can be spoilt if the lettering is badly arranged
and for this reason we give it the most careful consideration. Our engravers have won the highest awards for
design and letter cutting.
What is your first step?
We will be pleased to discuss your requirements entirely without obligation and give you a written estimate
showing all costs. We will visit your home if it is inconvenient for you to call at one of our local showrooms.
When can the memorial be erected?
We recommend a period of at least three months allowing the earth to settle, except where a concrete foundation
is present when there is no time delay. If you can select a memorial before this time we will put the material
on one side and guarantee the price.
We can also send accounts to aid solicitors in the settlement of the estate of the deceased.
Cemetery and Churchyard Regulations
Today, there are unfortunately many regulations regarding size and finish of memorials particularly in
Churchyards. We are fully conversant with these and can show you what complies with your particular cemetery
or Churchyard. Before a memorial can be erected permission must be granted. We prepare drawings and make all
applications and arrangements on your behalf, at no extra cost.
Choosing from an established name
For over a century the name of Stevenson has been associated with superior quality and outstanding craftsmanship.
